Cookie Monster Party

Plan a Cookie Monster party to celebrate a first birthday with family, friends, and youngsters. A Cookie Monster 1st birthday gives you lots of room for creativity when it comes to the invitations, decorations, desserts, and games. Don’t forget the chocolate chip cookies!

Here are a few Cookie Monster party ideas to help you plan a fabulous event for your little monster:

• Invitations: Invite guests to the birthday celebration with free Cookie Monster invitations. Include invitation details such as the name of the birthday boy or girl, type of event (birthday party), date, time, and location. Use invitation wording such as “C is for Cookie!  YUM, YUM, YUM!” The whimsical collection of Sesame Street online invitations on Punchbowl includes many different Cookie Monster designs for 1st birthdays, toddlers, and kids of all ages. 

• Decorations: Set the scene for the Cookie Monster party theme with Cookie Monster decorations. Fill a Cookie Monster piñata with candy and hang it as a decoration in the room. Cover the tables with blue tablecloths. Supply black cutlery for utensils and place blue napkins and blue plates on the table. For a finishing touch, decorate blue cups with large googly eyes and a black mouth in the shape of a half circle. Place Cookie Monster themed goody bags on the table as well. Purchase blue paper bags and glue on googly eyes and a mouth in the same style as the cups. Fill the goody bags with a snack size pack of chocolate chip cookies, a plastic figurine of Cookie Monster, a bottle of bubbles (in a blue container with googly eyes and a mouth on it), Cookie Monster stickers, and a homemade CD with Cookie Monster songs.

• Dessert: Bake a creative Cookie Monster cake to serve at the party. Gather a round cake pan, cake mix, two large marshmallows, a chocolate chip cookie and frosting (blue, black, and white). Use decorative frosting tips to apply the blue frosting to the cake. Select a tip that will make the frosting look long and stringy to resemble Cookie Monster’s hair. Choose a top edge of the cake, and apply two globs of white frosting. Place the two marshmallows on the globs to create Cookie Monster’s eyes. Squirt black frosting on the marshmallows for the eyeballs. Use a knife to cut a horizontal slit on the side of the Sesame Street cake, under the two marshmallow eyes. Insert the chocolate chip cookie in the slit to resemble Cookie Monster’s mouth. Cookie Monster cupcakes are an alternative to Cookie Monster cakes. Decorate the cupcakes in the same fashion as the cake with a few minor tweaks. Bake the cupcakes in blue cupcake cups. Once cool, decorate each cupcake with blue frosting. Use two small marshmallows for the eyes. Insert a small chocolate chip cookie in the mouth.

• Games: Entertain the kids throughout the Cookie Monster party with Cookie Monster games. Play “Cookie Monster Toss” and “Pin the Chocolate Chip Cookie on Cookie Monster.” For Cookie Monster Toss, supply the kids with light brown bean bags that have small black dotted stickers on them. Identify the bean bags as “cookies.” Place either a white (for milk) or blue (for Cookie Monster) hula hoop on the ground about 10 feet away from the children. Instruct the children to toss the cookies into either Cookie Monster’s mouth (blue hula hoop) or the glass of milk (white hula hoop). For the Pin the Chocolate Chip Cookie on Cookie Monster game, hang up a large picture of Cookie Monster. Blind fold the children and give them each a cookie sticker to try and stick on Cookie Monster’s mouth.
