Heart-Shaped Pretzels for Valentine's Day

A homemade snack is a great way to say "I love you." Make these heart-shaped pretzels for your kids or significant other to get them in the Valentine's Day spirit!
Ingredients:
  • 4 tbsp. of yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • Pam
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 4 cups hot water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup water
Directions:
Mix the yeast and 1 ½ cups of warm water together in a large bowl and then add the sugar and salt. Once mixed, add the flour and vegetable oil and knead the dough until it is smooth. Place dough in an oiled bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Let the dough rise until it is doubled in size, usually about 60 minutes.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In a large bowl, dissolve baking soda in 4 cups of hot water. Once dough has risen, lay out dough onto a lightly floured surface. Break up dough into small pieces, and roll out each piece into a rope shape. Spray a cookie sheet with Pam and then twist the pieces of dough into the shape of a heart. Once it is in the proper shape, dip the pretzel into the baking soda mixture and lay onto the cookie sheet.
Mix vanilla extract, powdered sugar, and ¼ cup of water to form vanilla frosting and spoon out over the pretzels. Bake pretzels in oven for 8 minutes, or until browned.
